The Wheelwright Museum of the American Indian presents Through Their Eyes: Paintings from the Santa Fe Indian School. This exhibition focuses on paintings from the Charlotte G. Mittler collection created by students who attended the Santa Fe Indian School between 1919 and 1945. Featured artists include Fred Kabotie, Velino Shjie Herrera, Allan Houser, Andrew Tsinjinnie, Pablita Velarde, and Sybil Yazzie. An accompanying 254-page, full-color catalog by Wheelwright assistant curator Michelle McGeough will be available in the museum’s Case Trading Post.

Beau Carey: Far Afield, Events on the Ground Beau Carey’s newest large scale oil paintings continue to look at landscape as a medium rather than as a subject. By examining farm land in the south valley, stalled housing developments along Albuquerque’s western border, and the open area surrounding Petroglyph National Monument he is able to create paintings that challenge viewers to contemplate how we treat open/occupied space. |

Zapata Ranch Painting Workshop: Landscape, Figure, Wildlife This February, Zapata Ranch will open it's doors for our first annual painting workshop. Led by Denver area-based and multi-award winning artist Lani Vlaanderen, this long weekend will be packed with 3 full days of instructional workshop where students will have the opportunity to paint from a live cowboy model, wildlife including bison, horses and cattle, as well as the unique San Luis Valley landscape. A great studio space is available for those not wanting to brave the elements and painting from photos is permitted. This is a great opportunity to gather reference from an actual working ranch and receive instruction on how to express your experience in paint.
